K.E.G.S

On Wednesday the K.E.G.S (Kids Edible Gardens) kids decided to plant potatoes.
We coloured in a sheet that showed the stages of potatoes then Sahria put three types of potatoes in the box. Maris Anchor, Rocket and Ilam Hardy are three types of potato that are sprouting shoots.

Quick Term 3 Salmon Update

Our baby salmon have liberated themselves! On Tuesday morning when I checked them the basket was tipped over and empty!
Now they all live amongst the gravel at the bottom of the tank.
Some of them are starting to "swim up.

More from Nile Room on our Term 3 happenings tomorrow!

Rugby League!

On Tuesday Terri from Tasman Rugby League came to Auckland Point School to teach Nile Room some rugby League skills because schools from Nelson are going to Tahunanui fields to play against other schools.
The weather was pretty bad but rugby league players are tough! We played some tag holding a ball and using it to tag. You had to hold it so your fingers get dirty from the ball but not the palm of your hands. If you were tagged you had to stand still, sometimes on one foot until someone else could free  you.
We also played some 'Rob the Nest' games. Ms Kelly played with us.

Salmon Update!

Salmon Advance by Alex

Our alevins are evolving into fry. Their yolk sack is depleting into their stomach A.K.A 'buttoning up'.
Up close you can see that they are starting to look like mini fish with a weird orange thing stuck to its body.
I can't wait to see what our fish/salmon will look like when they are fry!

On the 24th July Charmaine and Lesley came to help test the water. They also bought along some fish food. The fish food is tiny balls that smell like fish flakes. They smell very fishy.
Charmaine and Lesley also took out some tank water. I'm excited to see what they look like when they're in the next stage.

On Wednesday we tested the water and Charmaine and Lesley came in. We used a test tube and had bottles which were the test bottles. They were all a different colour. With some of them we had to put three drops int eh test tube and they would change colour. I thought it was cool and exciting because I have never seen the test tube change.

Big Fish!

Term 3 starts tomorrow so I (Ms Kelly) am in class making sure everything is ready!

Look how big our fish are now!  They don't have a lot of yolk sac left so we will have to start teaching them how to feed. Also we will need to let them out of the basket soon and start testing the water quality.

So exciting! (click on the picture for a close up)
